ABOUT DAVIDSON

Davidson’s remarkable life is a collection of unusual, sometimes astonishing, stories that cover a broad and deep range. A professional musician when he was young, then 43 remarkable months in the Army, where he went to Germany, attended the Army’s best NCO academy (held in the building that had been Patton’s WWII headquarters), then six months in Officer Candidate School. In Vietnam, he began as the Vietnam Entertainment Officer, with the small office that handled all the USO shows. After a few months, he decided that if he returned home without having experienced war he wouldn’t want to live with himself. So he transferred to the field and spent his final seven months as combat photographer with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. Some powerful stories are included in his book STORIES OF LIFE. After the Army, he finished his undergraduate degree in music theory at the University of Michigan, but decided he didn’t really have a gift in music—he just liked it. But he did have a gift in photography, so went around the country to study with half a dozen of the best portrait and wedding photographers, then opened a high-class portrait photography studio in Ann Arbor. But after six years he got bored and sold the studio. Truth is, he was kind of lost for a decade after Vietnam. He finally worked with some professionals and took a lot of interest and aptitude tests and decided on the ministry. After earning his Ph.D. in religion, philosophy and science, he served as a liberal minister for 23 years, retiring in 2009. He has been a Fellow in the Jesus Seminar since 1992, and a presenter and author in the International Big History Association since 2012.
